Although things have been a bit quiet on our blog and social media over the past few months, we have made some serious strides towards bringing our uncompromisingly unique beers to market! And BOY, are we excited to share what’s going on!
But first, a little back story
As some of you may know we spent 2017 courting investors and building interest in our brand and our beers. The goal was to secure enough investment capital to hit the market in a big way, with a million+ dollar brewing and event facility (The Agora). However, after examining various strategies and opportunities we decided that to achieve our goals and retain our vision, we would need to take a step back and build New Agorist more methodically. In this time we identified what is most important to us, to be as Independent and Authentic is absolutely possible. Or as we have come to say, to be Craft AF!
To this end, we set out to build allies and partners in the industry (and elsewhere). We formulated a plan of attack that would align us with reality and orient us towards success. And we meticulously allocated what precious-little start-up capital we have with miserly efficiency. The strategy we enacted was to contract brew our beers for the first year in the market with some of the most amazing craft breweries in Southern California. Then, only once we are firmly embedded in the local craft beer community would we reinstate our plans to bring on the right funding partners to manifest the Agora, Southern California’s premier brewery and civic gathering place.
From Brewery to Beer Company
One of the many changes we made to our approach was to position our company to be able to solve a common problem in the industry. We established ourselves as a beer distributor rather than a beer manufacturer. Not only did this allow us to begin contract brewing more quickly, but it has set us up to offer distribution and sales services to the newest fledgling breweries; Offering win-win contracts, pricing and representation that larger distributors only dedicate to their most mature brands. And we can provide those services with the kind of flexibility, agility and creativity that only a small nimble company can withstand (more on these plans in due time). With this in mind we re-branded from New Agorist Brewery to New Agorist Beer Company.
As mentioned, the brewery is still to come, and we have many tricks up our sleeve that are sure to make that adventure worth following. Be sure to sign up for our email updates and follow us on our social media for the play by play.
Onward and Upward
Now that you have some context as to where we came from and where we’re going, here is where we are right now.
On December 27th we mashed-in our inaugural brew at the incredible Absoltuion Brewing Company facility in Torrance Ca. It was a pleasure brewing with Bart and Ryan, their resident brew-masters, who were invaluable in helping us scale-up and mass produce one of our most popular recipes in a 15 barrel batch. One might think that brewing nearly 465 gallons of beer would be more daunting than brewing a mere 10. But with the right tools, automated equipment and know-how the brew day was a breeze! It was a absolute dream come true to see a beer we have been brewing for over 2 years be produced on that scale!
About a week later we added our not-so-secret ingredients to the fermenter, which make this beer truly stand out… 4.5 lbs of Mosaic hops along with 8 gallons of pure Purinton Grade A dark robust Vermont maple syrup. Fast forward another week, once the yeasties had a chance to go to town on that sweet sweet maple, we paid a visit to Absolution to check on our pride and joy. Let me tell you, if you get a chance to hunt down and try this beer, you are in for a treat!
This beer that we are so proud of has been dubbed the A is A Double IPA! (Formerly known as ‘Libertas’) For more information on this beautiful brew, all the deets can be found here.
It will be hitting the market in early February, which is just a couple weeks away! We’ll be posting a countdown to our B-day (that’s Beer day) along with an ever evolving list of where to find our beer. So check back often.
Until next time, we’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback. Please feel free to leave a comment below.
Oh and… Cheers, to liberty and beer!
